When in Doubt...

...do something weird. Or if you're already weird, marry someone who won't notice [a policy that worked at Chez Dilys!]

Is Default Order the new Entropy?

if you try to add order to a system it breaks down, but if you add disorder it can make the system spontaneously create order. Nobody understands this, not even the discoverers.

Which also features a why-didn't-I-think-of-that? sketch of a black hole, and a very fine interrogation of the problem of procrastination.

Very, very interesting. Reminds me of the concept of a 'pattern interrupt' that I associate with NLP or someone who borrowed from it. When a situation (or small child) is going downhill, a sudden, unexpected and weird act by someone can pull everyone back from where thay were going and allow a reassessment of the situation.

Speaking a nonsense phrase or blowing up a balloon that you pull out of your pocket work, but throwing a live animal on the table is the best. It's just hard to keep one in reserve until the right moment comes along.
