Great story you linked to.

I don't always enjoy shopping at Wal-Mart, but I do think they're probably one of the best run companies around, and this is a great example of it.

It's true that they don't pay their workers a very much, but (IMHO) the sad but true fact is that what they're being asked to do isn't worth that much. And while on one is going to get rich being a greater at Wal-Mart, it has provided the lower end of the income spectrum with somewhere they can afford to shop. Overall, I think even during normal operation, Wal-Mart does the poor much more good than harm.
